Characterization

In "With All Flags Flying", the Mr. Hatfield 's pride is what drives him to decide to live in a nursing home, instead of with his family. Even though his daughter wants him to live with her, Mr.Hatfield has lived independently for so long that he doesn't feel it necessary to live off the generosity of others.

It is his pride that allows him to argue with his daughter, that same pride which will not let him lose. And that same pride that really hurts his daughter.
